Licensed Narrative Coaching Partner Kerry Dawkins shared the following story about her experience in working with me and about what she gained as a result. She wrote it using the narrative coaching model so you could see it in action.

Situation: What my needs were in designing a global program

We wanted to create and provide a world class coaching programme with depth, structure and new ideas that would interest, educate the busy leaders in coaching and improve their coaching skills. We also needed to ensure that the program structure was suitable for online facilitation.

Search: What I was looking for and why I choose to work with David

We were attracted to David’s interesting work and model for Narrative Coaching and were impressed with David’s deep smarts on coaching leaders globally. We approached him and found him to be very open and willing to work with us and support us in the design and facilitation of the Leader as Coach program.

Since every good story revolves around a conflict… I struggled to believe that I could gain the needed skills to successfully facilitate the program and that it would come together. We overcame these challenges through working together on writing sample coaching conversations. David used his editing of our drafts to show us how we could specifically improve on our questioning and approach. This was very useful in both learning the work in more depth and in growing our confidence.

Shift: What I most appreciated in working with David

David has a huge amount of knowledge, skill and experience in training and developing coaches. He knew all our issues before we raised them and we appreciated his calm and probing response to our work and ideas. He coached us throughout the program to be the best version of ourselves and to create a programme that has depth and structure. He expresses himself so beautifully and we welcomed his rich contributions.

He has a gentle but persistent way of ensuring that you are moving towards your desired endpoint. We will continue to collaborate with David to enrich our programs, our lives and, of course, our stories.
