FOUNDATIONS WORKSHOP
This workshop is designed to introduce coaches to the core elements of a narrative approach to coaching. It is recommended that participants have a sufficient base of experience in coaching, base of understanding of psychology, and base of self-awareness to be able to work at this level. The workshop is designed to be highly participatory and provide time for reflective practice to support the integration of new awareness and learning. As I say in my corporate workshops, you cannot learn to swim by the side of the pool. Therefore, we will dive into:
- The fundamentals of narrative psychology and structure as a way to ground our work together
- The foundations in philosophy and mindfulness for a narrative approach to coaching
- The uses of Jungian and complexity principles to navigate the narrative field and material in coaching
- The ways in which to listen to client stories in a meditative yet powerful manner to forward the conversation
- The strategies for dealing with common issues that can arise for clients with their stories
- The ethics of working at the narrative level with clients
I will also teach extensively on the rites of passage frame for guiding clients in making the changes they seek. Participants will learn a lot about their own narrative patterns as coaches and can use the workshop to make shifts in their own identity stories as a platform for more powerfully serving their clients. Participants will also learn the roles and responsibilities of working at the narrative level.
You will learn:
- How to listen to stories with a greater understanding of their structure
- How to professionally attend to the dynamics that emerge in the narrative field
- How to draw on the past, present and future in working with stories
- How to track and support clients using the rites of passage frame
- How to map what is happening in a narrative coaching session
- How to engage clients in continuing the work outside of their sessions
- How to monitor your own narrative patterns and use this awareness selectively
- How to work within the roles and responsibilities of narrative coaching
